Online Examination Code in ASP .NET

Here is the code and database of online examination in ASP .NET. The database contains 172 questions related to Safety. Our application picks up 20 questions randomly and gives 600 seconds of time to answer the questions. You can change the no.of questions, answers and the time to be allotted very easily. Just go to GlobalValues.vb file in App_Code folder and change the values as per your requirement. Remember that total questions to be displayed should be X-1, i..e., if you want the system to pick up 20 questions and show it to the user, then the value of "ANSW" will be 19.

As of now the maximum no.of choices for a question is 4, you can increase it by creating more columns in "Test" table with names choice5, choice6 and so on. you can create upto 10 columns according to the code which i have written. You can increase it by changing the code in Qstns.aspx page. To use more than 4 choices you have to Uncomment some of the sections of Qstns.aspx page. Look at the screenshots below

You have to uncomment these three sections depending on the max no.of choices you have in the examination and also remember that you have to create columns in the "Test" table. All the answers to the questions should be stored in the "correct" column of "Test" table. Answer sheets of the participants will be stored in Answers table for your reference. IP Address, PC Logon name of the paticipant, left out time, participation status will be available in Users table. Store the name of the user in "NAM" column of "Users" table. If you don't have a website or blog, create one in www.blogger.com after deciding the content
Create posts in your blog without copying from anywhere. Content should be your own written
Design it in an attractive way, so that people will be able to read and reach it easily
Search for some meta tag generator websites on net (Ex :- http://www.onlinemetatag.com(Recommended))
Follow the instruction and generate tags
Sometimes the tags will miss the closing "/", if so add the closing "/" just before ">"
Add the meta tags to your site
To add metatags goto dashboard -> Layout -> Edit HTML
Just after the tag paste the generated tags
Click on save template
Metatags are required for search engines to easily crawl your blog
Goto Dashboard, Under Tools and resources click on Webmaster Tools
Login and follow all the steps, get your site verified and upload a site map if possible
Goto http://www.google.com/addurl/ and add your blogs URL, so that google spider will crawl your blog and display in the search results when someone tries to search for content present in your site
Goto http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit and add your URL
Goto http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx and submit your URL
Goto http://www.hostned.com/resources_site_submit.htm and submit your URL
There are many other sites where you can submit your URL
Search on net through Google to submit your URL to as many search engines as posiible
This ensures more traffic to your site
Remember that Google will not approve your blog if you copy the content. Before applying for Ad sense check your site with www.copyscape.com
If the results are zero continue to dashboard click on Monetize to place ads on your blog
Follow the instructions and get your blog approved

Once Google approves your account, it places ads according to your blog settings. To change these settings in order to place more ads goto dashboard -> Layout and add ad sense gadgets where ever you want. You can even try www.adbrite.com and www.chitika.com. Now you have to drive more traffic to your blog so that there will be more clicks on the ads. Some of the tips to drive traffic to your website are as follows.

Submit your blog's URL to as many search engines as possible, but be careful with spam websites
Refine your meta tags whenever you change or add new content to your blog
Goto online forums, discussions relating to your blog's content, participate in the discussions and leave your blog's URL, saying for more detailed explanation visit "http://YOURBLOG.blogspot.com"
Include your blog's URL in the signatures of your mail accounts
Goto www.TheBestlinks.com and add a button in your blog, so that people can subscribe to updates in your blog
Add copyscape banner on your blog so that people will not copy your content

Concatenate N no.of Columns in Excel

Here is a macro in excel which is capable of concatinating any no.of columns in a single click. This macro is capable of concatinating even the cells with date format. Normally it is difficult to concatenate the cells containing dates, but it is possible through this macro. Procedure is as follows

Open the file
Go to macros
Run the macro "concatcells"
Enter the number of the first column containing data
Click on Ok
Enter the number of the last column containing data
Click on Ok
Enter the no.of rows
Click Ok
Data in all the cells will be concatenated
Values in the cells will be separated with ','

Hai one and all, here is a macro which i wrote in excel which creates a hyperlink to all the files in a given directory and it's sub-directories. This is very useful and faster than the search option provided in the OS, as you can filter a particular type of file by using the autofilter option very quickly. Remeber that you cannot give search strings using wild cards, you can only give a search path here. This macro will create hyperlinks to all the contents of that particular path. Procedure is as follows

Open the file
Go to macros
Run the macro "runme"
Give the path
Click ok
Macro creates hyperlinks for all the contents in that directory
Insert a column at top
Give it some name
Apply autofilter
Now you can search any file by any any of it's attributes much faster that a default windows search program

Registry Backup and Restore in Windows

Hello everyone, registry is the heart of a windows OS. Before actually changing any of the settings in windows take a backup of your registry. Following is the process for backing up and restoring your registry.

Registry Backup :

Go to start menu and select Run or press Windows button + R
Type "regedit"
Windows registry will be displayed
Select "Export" from File menu.
Now enter the name for your registry backup and click on save

Registry Restore :

Go to start menu and select Run or press Windows button + R
Type "regedit"
Windows registry will be displayed
Select "Import" from File menu
Now go to the location where the backup file was stored, select the file and click on "Open"

In the above code "All Status" refers to a directory in my website path. "DBRet" is a function which connects to the actual database(SQL Server Database) and retrieves data from a table basing on the query supplied, it returns an SQL datareader object.
